Mold Testing
To ensure your family’s safety and a healthy living environment, A to Z Inspectors offers mold testing to our clients. If there is visible mold, our inspector can conduct a tape or swab sample or an air test to identify what molds are present.
Mold requires three things: moisture, a conducive surface, and air. We have little control over the air and surfaces in a house, but we can control moisture. Mold is naturally occurring in the environment and there are mold spores all around us. Mold is one of nature’s most effective recycling tools. It breaks down organic material like dead trees, food waste, etc. That is why it can be so destructive in your house. In addition, some people are allergic to various types of mold.
Radon Testing
Our radon certified inspectors perform a visual evaluation of key areas where radon can enter. Radon levels are found in most homes. This will determine if your home has a safe radon level and a healthy environment. And we get quick results.
Radon is a cancer-causing, radioactive natural gas that you can’t see, smell or taste and its unknown presence in your home can pose a danger to your family’s health. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second-leading cause of lung cancer in America, claiming about 20,000 lives annually.
Radon can seep into homes through small spaces and openings, such as cracks, floor drains, sump pump openings, floor joints in basements and even through well water. Some areas in the US have a much higher concentration of radon than others. The EPA estimates that nearly 1 out of every 15 homes in the US has an elevated level of radon.
Tap water quality in homes has become a growing, nationwide issue. There has been a growing awareness in America that what is coming out of a kitchen sink may not be as safe as once thought. There are many substances that can be found in tap water that can be harmful to yourself and your family. Water quality testing is the only way to know what is in your tap water.
After the Flint, Michigan water crisis, lead testing within municipality drinking water has become a common occurrence. While this may have been triggered by a series of events, there is still a danger of lead contamination across the country. It is estimated the water supplied to almost 10 million homes in America runs through older lead supply pipes at some point in the delivery process. These pipes may not be on your property so a water test is required. The EPA also states that “homes built before 1986 are more likely to have lead pipes, fixtures, and solder.” Read more on their site about lead safety here.
There are many consumer-grade filtration systems available to the public, but awareness is the first step. This is why all of us atA to Z property Inspection found it very important to add a water quality testing service. There is no better time to test the water than before you move in. Water quality testing will give you the information needed to make an informed purchasing decision, give you actionable information to mitigate the water, or just give peace of mind that your drinking water is safe.
